Tummy Time

Zev is not a fan of tummy time. This lasts about 20 seconds, and then he starts to fuss and cry until someone rescues him.

Zev's First Bottle

It's hard to get a steady shot in stealth mode, but you get the idea. (Mommy isn't supposed to be around, for fear that the sound of her voice or her smell might keep baby from taking the bottle.)

Turns out, once we get the temperature right, Zev is quite happy to have milk from any source! So far we've put Zev's new skills to work for trips to the dentist and ballet class.

Granno Visits

Granno came for a weekend visit to see how Zev has grown in the past three weeks. Granno and Zev had a great time together dancing,

singing,

...And smiling! (this just might be the first documentation of the yummy smiles Zev has been working on for a couple weeks.)

Pidyon HaBen

On Sunday, his 1-month birthday, we redeemed Zev from a life of Temple service in a ceremony called pidyon haben. For those unfamiliar with the subject, I recommend wikipedia.

After the redemption, we feasted in celebration! Frech toast, cheese blintzes, spinach quiche (thanks Mom!), salad, crepes, and banana bread--yum!

We followed it up with "our" (actually at Joe Cohen's place this time, hosted by Joe, the Zeigers, and us) "annual" (it's been a couple years) pyromaniacal party:

Family Music Time

Our latest pre-dinner routine includes a little family music time. Zev enjoys the keyboard's "flute" and "violin" functions the most.

Someone in the audience is a generous tipper.

Fun on the Changing Table

Josh and Zev have a lot of fun on the changing table -- or should I say pooping table? It important that they have fun, considering how many of Zev's waking hours are spent diapering!

We call this one "shadow puppets:"

Zev's First Tub Bath

Once Zev's umbilical stump fell off, it was time to graduate from sponge baths to tub baths with actual water. We worked fast, under Nana's expert supervision, and he didn't cry at all.

Maybe this is a standard newborn thing, but we think there's a strong resemblance between Zev's first bath and his cousin's.

Discovering fingers and mouth

Thumb?

Or finger?

Zev's favorite activities

#1: Rocking in a seat, snuggled up underneath Aunt Lauren's blanket, while his parents try to catch a bite to eat.

#2: Playing in the gymini with Dad

#3: Going on walks with Mom

#4-10: eating, pooping, and sleeping...and eating, pooping, and sleeping some more.
