There were animals at the zoo, by the way

Fort Worth Zoo

Texans think that 50 degrees is cold, so they don't do outdoor things. But we thought it felt like spring and enjoyed our trip to the very un-crowded Fort Worth Zoo.

We even caught a picture of a Granno in her natural habitat:

Zev's First Birthday Cake

A picture is worth a thousand words. You can probably fill in the story of Zev's first taste of cake. Verdict: he likes it (even if the carrot cake has whole wheat flour and we used vegetable juice to color the frosting).

Happy Birthday, Zev!

Someone is enjoying his birthday (& new toys).

Happy Chanuka!

Zev was born on Chanuka, so naturally loves a good game of dreidel:

Throwing is fun, but we're working on spinning too:

Gimmel--I win!

Happy Chanuka everyone!

Sleeping like a baby

Maybe this is what they mean by "sleeping like a baby"?

Exhibit 1: 6/4/10
Foot through the crib slats; a common sight when we come to get him in the morning or after a nap.

Exhibit 2: 6/15/10
Yes, that is Zev's little tush in the air (left). He slept like this for a long time.

Food Face Zev

It could have been a lot worse...

Maybe he's born with it

Those lashes certainly aren't Mabelline.

Take 2

More early feeding photos. As you can see, holding and chewing on the spoon seem to be Zev's primary objectives. Rice cereal, what rice cereal?

Feed me!

The week that Zev turned 5 months, we started experimenting with solid food -- the classic rice cereal. He figured out how to swallow it, but was more excited to hold the spoon than to eat the food.

Chromosome Song

Remember back to the night before Zev's bris, when we took this picture of Zev's so-called acceptance speech? Well, it was actually the lyrics to Josh's chromosome song:

Chorus:
Oh Chromosome, Chromosome, Chromosome
They're made of DNA
Chromosome, Chromosome, Chromosome
There's C, T, G, and A

Verse 1:
The C base pairs with G
The A base pairs with T
And the way that lets them zip up
makes them easy to copy!

Verse 2:
We each have 46 chromosomes
Comprising 20,000 genes
Which thanks to alternative splicing
can make a whole lot of proteins

Cousin Seth Turns 4!

Cousin Seth celebrated his 4th birthday with a party at My Gym. While Zev is a little young for the zip line and ball pit, he took in all the sights with wide eyes (after a long nap in his car seat).

The Evolution of Tummy Time

In the beginning, there was Zev, flat on his face.
Exhibit A: 1/29/10

Then came 'bummy time' and Zev was much happier spending time on his front.
Exhibit B: 2/25/10

Now, Zev has built up the strength to lift his head (not to mention tolerate this position for periods of time that can be measured in minutes, not nanoseconds). What progress!
Exhibit C: 3/22/10
